Groundbreaking Ceremony

Monday, July 8, 2019 at 8:00am

We welcome anyone who can attend to this special event.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, planned, and hoped for this facility!

Our plan…

The North Tyler Facility will be used to conduct Life Experience Skills Classes.  These will be offered to Tyler ISD students as well as other students in the community.  Our goal is to see at least 150 students go through the 2019 Fall program.

Coaches trained by our Program Director, Christian Sarran, will interact with the students teaching them the basics of golf and basic social life skills.  Our coaches build relationships and many times turn into mentors for the youth that enter our programs.

The facility can be used by Tyler ISD for its National School Program by providing an open space to conduct the courses and paving an avenue for students to visit a golf facility. Our goal is to engage 17 schools this fall and build upon that number in the coming years.

Teaching life skills and healthy habits to youth in our community will have an impact for years to come and the North Tyler Facility will play an important role in reaching these students and their families.

Our mission…

Through after-school and in-school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect, and perseverance through the game of golf.  And it’s making a difference.

How…

Through a generous donation from the Rainwater Charitable Foundation we are able to move forward with Phase I with plans to have it completed for use in the Fall of 2019.

Phase I: Summer 2019  Facility Layout

  • Build chipping green
  • Build putting green
  • Build tee line for driving range/hitting bays
  • Grade/prep parking area
  • Net the driving range (due to cost this may be moved to Phase II, Fall classes will use limited flight golf balls)
  • Fence perimeter
  • Gain access to water and electricity
  • Obtain sponsor ads and display on fence

Phase II: Spring 2020

  • Place/construct building (2500+ sq ft)
  • Net the driving range (if not completed in Phase I)
  • Add sand to bunker
  • Add lights to the driving range and greens
  • Improve parking area

Sustainability…

As with our current programs, we rely on generous donations from members right here in our community.  Donations made to The First Tee of Greater Tyler stay in East Texas to ensure our youth are receiving experiences of a lifetime in our programs.
